Sebastian Schmitt received his PhD in condensed matter theory from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. After a post-doc at the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany, he joined the Honda Research Institute Europe (HRI-EU) in 2012. In his role as Principal Scientist he evaluates recent technologies in optimization, data analytics and machine learning for their use in real-world engineering settings relevant to Honda R&D departments. In recent years he has established quantum optimization and quantum machine learning algorithm development as research topics at HRI-EU and evaluates their potential regarding industry applications.
